Implant crowns and bridges

Dental implants are artificial tooth replacements used to counter tooth loss. The procedure is categorized as a form of prosthetic (artificial replacement) dentistry.

Although you have a number of restorative options for the treatment of missing teeth, none have proven to be as functionally effective and durable as implants. In many cases, dental implants may be the only logical choice for the restoration of all necessary functionality of the teeth and supporting structures.

Dental implants are stronger and more durable than their restorative counterparts (bridges and dentures). Implants offer a permanent solution to tooth loss. Additionally, implants may be used in conjunction with other restorative procedures for maximum effectiveness.

Dental veneers are a popular choice of treatment for patients with crooked, stained or damaged teeth. If you have a chipped tooth or one that is showing signs of wear and tear, you might consider having a veneer.

Veneers or laminates as they are often called are thin shells of porcelain which are ‘tooth coloured' and designed to fit over a damaged or defective tooth. They are fixed or ‘cemented' to the enamel of a tooth or teeth and can give you that ultra white smile as seen on models and celebrities.

Porcelain veneers are routinely used to improve the cosmetic appearance of teeth that are discoloured, worn, chipped, or misaligned. The ceramic material is bonded to the enamel of teeth to change the tooth colour, size and/or shape.

Endodontic services

Root canals

Endodontics / root canals is the area of dentistry concerned with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the dental pulp (the tooth's nerve and blood supply). Years ago, teeth with diseased or injured pulps were extracted. Today endodontic treatment gives dentistry a safe and effective means of saving teeth. We perform root canal treatment of single and multi-rooted teeth.

Gum surgery

The main cause of periodontal (gum) disease is bacterial plaque, a highly adhesive, clear film that is constantly forming on teeth.

It is also known to be caused by other factors like smoking, genetics, pregnancy, certain medications, teeth grinding, diabetes and poor nutrition.

Advanced gum disease often requires periodontal (gum) surgery. Gum surgery becomes the only viable periodontal treatment once the soft tissue around your teeth becomes too unhealthy to be repaired with non-surgical treatment. The four types of gum surgery most often recommended are:

  • Pocket reduction procedures
  • Regenerative procedures
  • Crown lengthening
  • Soft tissue grafts

Teeth whitening

Teeth whitening or tooth bleaching is a cosmetic dentistry procedure designed to remove stains and discoloration, as well as lighten pigmentation within the teeth. The level of whiteness that can be achieved will depend on the level of discoloration of the teeth and how they came to be stained.

This procedure can be easily performed in our office in a single visit.

Zoom bleaching

Zoom is a bleaching process that lightens discoloration of enamel and dentin in only 45 minutes.

The zoom light activated gel's active ingredient is Hydrogen Peroxide. As the Hydrogen Peroxide is broken down, oxygen enters the enamel and dentin, bleaching coloured substances while the structure of the tooth is unchanged. The zoom aids in activating the Hydrogen Peroxide and helps it penetrate the surface of the tooth. A study has shown that use of the Zoom lamp increases the effectiveness of the zoom gel by 26% or more, giving an average improvement of eight shades.

The complete process takes less than an hour. The procedure begins with a preparation period followed by 45 minutes of bleaching.

Pediatric Dentistry

It is important to see a dentist with experience in treating children, because special approaches are needed in dealing with their behaviour, and guiding their dental growth and development in order to avoid future dental problems. We have extensive experience in meeting those needs. We recommend that children have their first dental visit at age one to ensure their teeth are developing properly and that good oral hygiene is introduced at this early age. This also allows children to become comfortable with dental visits.

Snoring appliances

While often viewed with some amusement by the general public, loud snoring can be a significant problem for a couple. Regular sleep loss takes its toll and seriously reduces the ability to cope with life and work on a day to day basis.

While careful evaluation is necessary, many patients can be helped with a mandibular advancement splint. This consists of an upper and lower appliance which is easily placed and generally well tolerated. The appliance gently brings the lower jaw forward and helps to open the patient's airway, thus leading to cessation of snoring.
